In the field of application of non-contact tool setters, Visual Tools Setter is the system which allows to measure tools on machining centers and or milling machines of every size. The integrated micro-camera is able to acquire several images of tool at different angular position, providing extremely precise values of length and diameter even for smallest tools, less than one millimeter.
From the point of view of measurement speed, Visual Tool Setter is able to work very rapidly thanks to optimized software and for the possibility to keep the tool in rotation.
Its interface makes the system programmable and adaptable to the most different operative conditions.
Visual Tool Setter is a system which allows to realize complex measurement applications regarding:
Tool shape and size detection
Tool breakage detection
Tool presetting for unknown tools
Length, diameter and also more other measurements like TIR, Cutter Radius, and tool center coordinates with rotating tool
Tool wear compensation and integrity check of single cutter profile and surface
Machine axes thermal drift compensation
Check of micro-tools with small diameters and different shapes that are involved in micro precision part processing and mold production
Fast measure can be get especially with static tools like turning, or in case of multi-cutter tool with indexed positions
One of the main features of Visual Tool Setter is its protection system, which allows excellent measurement performances even in presence of coolant or dust. When checks are not being performed, pneumatic shutters cover and protect the optical lenses, keeping them mechanically separated from harsh machine environment; during the measurement cycle on the contrary, a patented solution does come out an air flow from the optical window rejects chips and coolant drops. Such double protection (pneumatic and mechanical) guarantees to users the excellence of measurement results.
Thanks to the flexibility of the interface, Visual Tool Setter can be programmed to be adapted to the machine type and to the implemented measurement cycle, performing the checks in real machining conditions.

Visual Tools Setter family is divided into Small Field and Wide Field in order to fit the measuring area of micro camera to different dimensions of tools.
Visual Tool Setter – Small Field
Visual Tool Setter is composed by measuring area with size 0.704x0.528 mm. In its standard version the Small Field 45 mm is equipped by an emitter and receiver that have a clearance distance of 45 mm, in order to measure tools up to 40 mm in diameter. Due to necessity to comply with the limited working spaces, especially in machines for molds production, Marposs has changed dimensions of its standard model to create new Small Field which is called Compact, shorter and higher than the previous one, with this the area occupied on the machine table is reduced. Marposs has also provided a third version called Small Field 85 mm, longer than previous model with the distance between emitter and receiver 85 mm long, this to accept to measure tools with diameters up to 80 mm. Both new models maintain the same metrological performances of the standard model.
Visual Tool Setter – Wide Field
The Wide Field family features a wider measuring area. 3.00 x 2.25 mm. Thanks to this technical detail the system allows to frame both sides of tools up to diameter of 3 mm, maintaining at same time high metrological performances. It is available Wide Field 45 mm and its stretched version Wide Field 85 mm
