30TH “MARIO POSSATI” MEMORIAL FELLOWSHIP 2022 AWARDED TO AIDA ZHARMUKHAMETOVA

Aida Zharmukhametova is the recipient of the 2022 “Mario Possati” Memorial Fellowship, now in its thirtieth year of assisting a gifted young Eastern European person to complete their education to international standards. The Fellowship, promoted and financed by Confindustria Emilia Area Centro and Marposs, is named after Mario Possati, Founder of Marposs and is for talented young Eastern Europeans specialising at Bologna's SAIS (School of Advanced International Studies), a division of the American Johns Hopkins University.

Aida Zharmukhametova is from Almaty, Kazakhstan. She has a Bachelor of Humanities degree in International Relations from al-Farabi Kazakh National University in Almaty, Kazakhstan. After completion of studies, she decided to continue studying in Master’s to acquire knowledge in international law because it is an inseparable part of international relations. In 2018, she graduated from the same university with a Master of Legal Sciences degree in International Law.

In addition, during her Master's studies, her research advisor recommended her to the Vice-Rector of Academic Affairs to work in the accreditation division at al-Farabi Kazakh National University. Thus, having previously studied in a European country, she has chosen Europe for further study, and now at SAIS, she would like to focus on migration studies, in particular Europe’s policy in educational migration, supplemented by international development, in order to prepare for a career in the field of public policy.

The award ceremony, held on 12 May at the Johns Hopkins University, featured Stefano Possati, Marposs Chairman, alongside his brothers Edoardo and Alberto, respectively Vice-Chairman and a Member of the Board, the President of Confindustria Emilia Area Centro, Valter Caiumi, with the Director General, Tiziana Ferrari, and the Director of Johns Hopkins University SAIS Europe, ENI Professor of International Economics Michael G. Plummer, with Head of Development, Gabriella Chiappini.
