WHEEL BALANCER FOR HIGH SPEED GRINDERS

MARPOSS BALANCING SYSTEMS WILL OPTIMIZE THE PERFORMANCE OF CBN GRINDING WHEELS

WHEEL BALANCER FOR HIGH SPEED GRINDERS

Marposs has been dealing with wheel balancers for well over 12 years. The majority of its business has been concentrated in Europe, the Far East and as well the United States. It is traditionally installed on new grinding machines but retrofitting older machines can be done as well. Wheel balancing systems have been aggressively sought out by grinding manufacturers because they offer the best possible solution and are easily integrated in the machine design. Grinding manufactures have always been concentrating on improving cutting performances and part geometry. This is where the Marposs balancing system excels.

Marposs started with the flange type balancing head, which is still commonly used today. Since then, Marposs has grown and expanded into offering the most advance spindle type balancing head used today. This solution immediately found the interest of the grinding manufactures because the wheel can be changed by the operator without ever touching the balancer. These applications traditionally work in what is called a low wheel speed environment. A low wheel speed environment has a peripheral speed less than 6,000 RPM or 125 m/s.

Currently, the trend is rapidly changing. Wheel speeds of 200 m/s or more are becoming a reality. At this speed the grinding wheel-spindle needs to be controlled. This will avoid any unreasonable conditions and balance the wheel to get the best finishing surface and part shape quality.

The ease of operation with the spindle type application is the most advanced for high-speed balancers in its class today. The balancer consists of two masses that rotate along the same axis. These two masses act as counterweights compensating for any unbalanced condition and will continue to rotate until the predetermined balanced condition is met. When the balancing cycle starts, it will operate without any residual unbalancing. This means that no residual torque will unbalance the grinding wheel during the balancing cycle.

The Marposs wheel balancing system also has an acoustical sensor integrated into its system. This allows the wheel balancing system to perform gap elimination and crash detection during the wheel / workpiece and wheel / dresser cycles.

The Marposs wheel balancing system will prevent any risk of chattering, while reducing grinding cycle time and creating excellent part circularity. This produces a better overall quality to the finished part. Our system also has the added benefit of cost reduction. The wheel balancing system will eliminate harmful vibrations that over time will wear out bearings. The longer life expectancy of the wheel will also save costs in not only wheel replacement but will also reduce downtime for wheel changeover.
