Marposs Kabushiki Kaisha (Head Office: Ota-ku, Tokyo) regrets to announce that it was involved in a ransomware attack. We sincerely apologize to our customers and business partners for the inconvenience and concern this has caused.
1. Overview of the damage
The attack interested a file server used for general business purposes, causing disruption to head office operations. The file server in question contained general personal contact information like business email addresses and contacts. We immediately shut down the network , therefore we consider the risk of information leakage in Japan is quite low.
On the other hand, our company's email system was not affected because it is operated using an external cloud service rather than the internal server attacked. Furthermore, the cloud service is operating without any problems, and sending and receiving emails are safe.
2. Background
Around 12:00 on January 26, 2025, our employees recognized an abnormality in the files stored on the general business file server and immediately shut down the network. In the early hours of January 27, it was discovered that all files stored on the file server were inaccessible.
3. Future response
We are currently building a new system environment that is not affected by this incident and have restored operations. We will continue to monitor for information leaks and will notify you if any new facts are discovered.
4. Measures to prevent recurrence
We will work with external specialist agencies to strengthen information security and take measures to prevent recurrence in the future regarding this incident.
