HIGH PRECISION SOLUTION FOR MATCH GRINDING APPLICATIONS
The latest automobiles with diesel engines have performance, excellent fuel efficiency, and low emissions. With electronic data management of the engine to optimize the combustion several critical parts require a manufacturing process to achieve a tolerance better than 2 microns.
The measuring gauges for these processes must have a total accuracy of some nanometers. This precision has already been reached in the metrology laboratory with temperature stability, but it is unusual to be applied to machine tools on the shop floor. A use of this special gauge is the grinding process of components for the diesel engine injection and hydraulic spools where matching tolerances are often of few microns.
Marposs has proven applications for grinding machines with a resolution of some nanometers and a total gauge accuracy of 0,1 µm. These results can be obtained under precision grinding conditions of these mechanical parts, as the measuring system is not affected by the coolant's thermal variations. The measuring equipment uses electro-mechanical or electro-pneumatic transducers, according to the manufacturing conditions and diameters to be controlled.
The new in-process measuring heads on the grinding machine (Unimar S) associated with the ones for pre-process or post-process checks (pneumatic plugs) manage the working cycles on grinders by matching the worked part (pin) to the previously measured part (body), with an accuracy of a tenth of µm.
This equipment is used along with the P7 and/or the P1 electronic unit.
